Engels Vasilevich Kozlov was born in Troitsko-Pechersk in the Komi Autonomous Republic of Russia.
He studied at the a children’s art school in Sykyvkar in the late 1930’s, at the Yarslavl Art College from 1947 to 1949 and at the Leningrad Art College from 1949 to 1950. He was accepted at the prestigious Repin Institute in St. Petersburg, studying there from 1950 to 1956. He was a pupil of Vitaly Valtsev and Ivan Stepashkin and graduated from the studio of the master, Yuri Neprintsev.
He participated in the "Soviet-Russai" show in Moscow in 1960 and in personal exhibitions in Leningrad (1976), Moscow (1987) and Syktivka (2006). He was a member of the Leningrad Artists’ Union since 1956.
Some of his personal awards include:
Honoured Artist of Komi Republic (1971 and Russian Federation (1982).
People`s Artist of Komi Republic (1982) and Russian Federation (1987).
Kozlov’s paintings are in the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery and in museums and private collections in Russia, USA, England, Japan, France and throughout the world.
He is listed in Matthew Bown’s, A Dictionary of Twentieth Century Russian and Soviet Painters.
