Aleksei Ivanovich Polyakov was born in the ancient Ukrainian village of Kalinovo on Luganchine August 27, 1943. As a teenager, Polyakov moved to Donetsk to receive professional training. He graduated from the National Studio of Fine Arts of the Palace of Culture named I. Franko. While still a student, in 1965, the talented young artist garnered public attention and critical acclaim for works he showed as part of a student exhibition in Berlin.
In 1976, Polyakov was admitted into the Union of Artists and became an "official" artist of the Soviet Union as an employee of the Art Fund of Ukraine. In 1996, he won the coveted title of "Merited Artist of Ukraine", signaling his position as an elite member of the nation’s art world.
Aleksei Polyakov’s works are in major collections in Russia, Germany, Slovakia, Egypt, Poland, Israel, England and the United States. He is listed on page 245 of Matthew Bown’s, A Dictionary of Twentieth Century Russian and Soviet Painters, 1900-1980’s.
